N 117G
N 117G
The N 117G simulator is a professional training solution that replicates the behavior, controls and diagnostics of a tactical radio transceiver. Designed for military, security services and training centers, the simulator provides an accurate, interactive environment for learning device operation, troubleshooting and voice communications—without the need to occupy real radio spectrum.
Overview
This simulator models the front and rear panels, display, handset and connectors of the N 117G, allowing trainees to practice routine and advanced procedures: powering the unit on/off, selecting channels and modulation, entering frequencies, initiating transmission via PTT, and performing system tests. Visual and acoustic feedback mirror real operational behavior to ensure transferability of skills to field equipment.
Core capabilities
- Power on/off and presentation of current device states;
- Frequency entry and modulation selection per channel;
- Receive/listen on selected frequencies and establish voice links when parameters match other stations;
- Simplex voice communications active only while PTT is pressed; PTT mutes receive audio during transmission;
- Interactive PTT and front-panel controls with graphical representation of panels and display;
- Session persistence — last-set parameters displayed at next login;
- Volume control and realistic audio quality modeling according to virtual distance and conditions;
- Browser-based access (Firefox, Chrome) for quick deployment;
- Authentication and user account management for secure, auditable access;
- Shared server architecture and integration with instructor systems (NowaSim) for centralized control and monitoring.
Testing and diagnostics
The simulator includes a comprehensive diagnostic suite to verify components and simulate faults. Available tests include:
- BERT (Bit Error Rate Test) — narrowband BER testing;
- SELF TEST — built-in hardware module autotest;
- WIDEBAND TEST — wideband transmission/reception checks;
- LCD TEST — display segment verification;
- SW VALIDATION — software integrity check for encrypted and unencrypted files;
- KEYPAD TEST — front panel key verification;
- MIC TEST — visual audio level indication for microphone output.
Operational ranges and protocols
- Operating frequency range: 30 MHz – 2000 MHz (Low VHF, High VHF, UHF, and SATCOM ranges as specified);
- Modulations supported: AM, FM (VHF/UHF);
- Supported modes and waveforms: VULOS, HPW, HAVEQUICK I & II, SATURN, ANW2, ANW2C in accordance with the user manual (Publication No. 10515-0319-4203, May 2014).
Integration, security and training benefits
Integration with an instructor workstation provides real-time visibility of PTT, SQUELCH/CARRIER and current radio settings, remote control of trainee stations, session recording and assessment tools. The simulator reduces operational costs by eliminating wear on physical radios, removing the need for dedicated antenna ranges and spectrum rental, and enabling scalable, repeatable training scenarios with immediate performance analysis.
For enhanced realism the simulator can emulate connection/disconnection of core elements such as batteries, antennas and side-port data devices, and supports voice links between simulated radios and compatible physical radios when available.
