R3501
R3501
The R-3501 simulator delivers a realistic, training-focused reproduction of a tactical VHF/UHF radio station. Designed for operator training, command exercises, and integration with instructor workstations, it replicates the look and behavior of the real equipment while exposing deep control over transmission parameters. The simulator supports both analog and digital modes, enabling realistic drills under a wide range of operational conditions.
The application is engineered to facilitate structured training: from basic powering and frequency selection to advanced exercises involving masking, selective calling and data transmission. Its user interface mirrors the real radio controls and menus, making the transition between simulator and hardware seamless for trainees.
Core capabilities
- power on/off control of the simulated radio station;
- presentation of the current operational states and retention of parameters across the current power-on session;
- modulation switching (F3E, F2D) and adjustment of transmission settings;
- manual entry and programming of frequency for selected channels;
- monitoring (listen) on a selected frequency with adjustable speaker volume;
- programming the radio via a simulated programmer (Fill Gun);
- workstation integration with "softphone" applications to simulate hands-on radio operation;
- menu replication that provides access to all device functions and quick configuration;
- PTT mechanics faithfully reproduced: links are simplex and active ONLY while PTT is pressed; pressing PTT mutes the receive acoustics;
- signaling of PTT, SQUELCH and CARRIER states and display of parameters on an instructor workstation;
- voice communication with other simulators or devices if frequency and modulation settings match;
Operational realism
The simulator preserves last-used settings for the duration of a power-on session, enabling continuity between exercises and rapid setup. Operators can dynamically alter frequency, modulation and power, directly affecting a station's audibility and quality in simulated conditions. This allows instructors to build realistic scenarios with interference, masking or selective calling to develop advanced operator skills.
Instructor features and interoperability
Instructor workstations show availability of terminals, current frequency, modulation and power settings, and signal the status of PTT, SQUELCH and CARRIER. These monitoring tools provide clear situational awareness, enabling instructors to observe, intervene and evaluate trainee actions in real time. The simulator is also designed for integration with existing training environments and other simulators, enabling voice links when parameters align.
Simulated technical parameters
The R-3501 simulation models typical device parameters, including operation in the VHF/UHF band (approx. 30–88 MHz), programmable channel memory, support for analog and digital voice and data transmissions, and compatibility with external encryption devices and data modems. The platform supports the full training cycle, from commissioning and fill-gun programming to mission execution and assessment.
Whether used for individual operator training, unit-level exercises or instructor-led scenarios, the R-3501 simulator provides a robust, realistic and flexible environment for mastering tactical radio communications.
