The BRASS (Broadcast and Ship-Shore) simulator enables comprehensive training in long-range military communications for Naval Forces. It encompasses both data transmission in NATO-standard formats and voice communication via simulated HF (High Frequency) radio links. Trainees operate in roles assigned to specific command nodes: ships (SHIP), shore stations (SHORE), command centers (HQ), and broadcast units (BCST).

BRASS scenario-based training incorporates both standard operational workflows and instructor-defined exercises. This dual-mode flexibility supports customized learning objectives and adaptive mission simulations.

Main system functions:
  • Simulation of message transmission in formats:
  • ACP-127, SMTP, XMPP, STANAG – with attachment support.
  • Handling of operating modes: routine, priority, immediate, flash, with various levels of classification (open–top secret).
  • Voice communication with PTT VOICE function, reflecting RX/TX and EMCON (radio silence)
  • Generation, editing, and sending of messages via an advanced editor.
  • Message queuing system (Queue) and log journal (Log)
  • Ability to pause and resume transmission
  • Support for communication plans (CommPlan), including modem configuration, cryptography, antennas, frequencies, and power
  • Testing connection integrity via test messages (SHIP–SHORE, SHIP–SHIP, BCST)
  • Built-in exercise and assessment system integrated with an e-learning platform
  • Support for communication across relationships: SHIP–SHORE, SHIP–SHIP, SHORE–BCST, BCST–RX, NSWAN
  • Teacher panel with the ability to:
    • management of user positions and permissions,
    • activating radio silence (EMCON),
    • tracking user activity and ratings,
    • running scenarios and exercises
  • Full integration with the e-learning platform (login, results overview, activity history)
  • Ability to view student activity, grade attempts, analyze results, and view message logs
