M3SR 4100

M3SR 4100 ship radio simulator

The M3SR-4100-1 is a high-fidelity shipboard radio simulator engineered to reproduce the behaviour, controls and operational states of real HF/VHF/UHF radio systems inside a safe LAN-based environment. It enables realistic voice and data training without emitting radio waves, replicating key parameters such as frequency, modulation type, bandwidth and audio quality that depend on virtual distance and propagation conditions. This fidelity allows trainees to practice real procedures while instructors maintain full control over the scenario.

Core capabilities

  • Comprehensive state presentation: visibility of device availability, module health, SQUELCH/CARRIER and PTT activity, transmitter gain and local/remote modes.
  • Full remote control and configuration: programming channels and frequencies, selecting emission types and bandwidths, adjusting transmitter levels, toggling noise control and emergency receiver functions, and simulating hardware faults.
  • Fill Gun simulation: upload of configuration data to the simulated radio from an emulated external programmer.
  • Realistic voice connectivity: station-to-station and network (many-to-many) voice links, simplex and duplex modes, with authentic PTT behaviour that mutes receive audio when transmitting.
  • Data services: simulated STANAG 5066 data terminal, HF Chat application and ACP-127 message handling for NATO-style messaging.
  • Support for operational modes and protocols such as HQII, SATURN, ALE and 3G where matching frequency and modulation parameters exist between stations.
  • Audibility mapping: simulated impact of noise, modulation and distance on perceived audio quality to train judgment under degraded conditions.
  • Built-in diagnostics: automatic start-up tester, onboard fault localization tools and the ability to generate failure modes for troubleshooting exercises.
  • Graphical representation of ancillary equipment: visualisation of unattended components such as power amplifiers and other items that form part of the radio suite.

Benefits for training organisations

M3SR-4100-1 reduces cost and operational complexity by eliminating the need for antenna fields and RF emissions, lowering equipment wear and removing spectrum licensing concerns. Training throughput increases because multiple trainees can practice simultaneously in repeatable, instructor-controlled scenarios. Results are recorded and can be integrated with e‑learning and assessment platforms to provide measurable progress and after-action review.

Instructor tools and integration

The simulator operates over LAN and integrates with NowaSim-style management systems, enabling instructors to oversee many stations regardless of simulator type. Remote control functions allow session orchestration: start/stop stations, change parameters on the fly, inject faults or alter communications topology. The platform supports text and encrypted message exchange, simulated chat applications and extensive logging for debrief and evaluation.

Designed for naval and maritime communications training, the M3SR-4100-1 delivers a realistic, flexible and safe environment for both initial instruction and advanced operational exercises. Its accurate emulation of modern ship radio behaviour combined with robust instructor controls makes it an ideal tool for building and maintaining radio proficiency in operational units.
